How to login to Windows XP as Administrator when more than one administrator account is setup

September 17th, 2009 Categories: HOWTO's

When you setup more than one Administratr account on Windows XP, then the main “Administrator” account is disabled in the Welcome screen. You can now only login with the administrator in Safe Mode.

This often leads to problems, especially if the “Administrator” account is actively being used.

Here’s a quick “hack” to allow the Administrator to login again:

  1. Click on Start > Run, and then type in regedit, and then click on OK to run the Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate the following registry key:
  3. Now add a new DWORD value, named Administrator
  4. Double click on Administrator and change the value to 1
  5. Close the Registry Editor, and switch user to login as Administrator.
